The Wildlife & Endangered Species Committee

The Sierra Club’s Wildlife & Endangered Species Committee (WESComm) is the Club’s primary volunteer committee for issues related to the conservation and management of plant and animal species and their habitat.

Operating under the Club’s Wild Planet Strategy Team, WESComm is composed of active volunteer members from around the county, corresponding members who provide input on wildlife issues in which they have particular interest or expertise, and several staff liaisons. Particular emphasis is placed on the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and on species listed as threatened or endangered under the ESA.

WESComm's major accomplishments for 2004 include:

  • Drafting and coordinating the Club's responses to wildlife legislation and administrative proposals at the federal, state, and international levels;
  • Formation of a Wolf Working Group of Club staff and activists;
  • Publication of a series of threatened & endangered species posters (bald eagle, gray wolf, Canada Lynx, and grizzly bear) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ESA.
  • Production and distribution of an ESA PowerPoint slide show for grassroots wildlife activists.

For more information on WESComm, contact Sean Cosgrove, or visit the campaign's website.
