State of World Population 2004:
This year's report, The Cairo Consensus at Ten: Population, Reproductive Health and the Global Effort to End Poverty, examines countries' achievements and constraints in implementing the Cairo consensus, including efforts to improve the quality and reach of reproductive health programs, promote women's rights, improve maternal and child health and strengthen HIV prevention efforts. UNFPA's report makes the case that mobilizing political will and increased funding by the international community is crucial if countries are to maintain and build on the gains of the past decade. Population Connection's World Population Awareness Week Activist Kit
Since 1960, the world's population has more than doubled from 3 billion to 6.4 billion. We are growing by 73 million people a year, with much of this growth occurring in countries with the least ability to provide basic services for their citizens. During this year's World Population Awareness Week (October 18th - 24th) people are looking at how the size of our population and our consumption of resources impacts the issues they care about. Find out more about the kit here.
