Support for Family Planning Denied - Take Action!

On June 16th, members of the House of Representatives voted on an amendment that would have prohibited the U.S. State Department from cutting off funding to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Despite the life-saving and important environmental work that UNFPA accomplishes, the amendment was rejected.

Read more about UNFPA on our Web site and contact your Member of Congress! If your Congressperson voted yes or "Pro-Environment," thank him or her for supporting family programs that improve the lives of women, communities and the health of the environment. If they voted no, let them know that as a constituent and an environmentalist, you care about these important life saving programs!

Check our Web site to find out how your Representative voted, then call the Capitol Switchboard at 1-866-340-9281 and ask the operator to connect you to your Representative's office.

Is Emergency Contraception Accessible in Your Community? Help Us Find Out!

In last month's PopNews we asked you to conduct a survey of the pharmacies in your community to find out if they would fill emergency contraception (EC) prescriptions. We've had a few people provide us with the results of their investigations, but we really need to know what is happening in more communities! Call your local pharmacies and let us know what you find out by sending us an email at population@sierraclub.org. Include the details of your investigation -- tell us what pharmacies you called and where they are located. After we have a bit more feedback, we want to share what we have learned in the next edition of PopNews!
