Brittany McKee and Operation Purple campers check out a humvee on “Military Day” in Larkspur, Colorado.

Peter Martin, Executive Director of The Sierra Club Foundation, and Martin Leblanc, Sierra Club's Director of Youth Initiatives join with Major General Michael Lehnert, Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations West at a "Welcome Home" event for Operation Purple campers returning to Camp Pendleton after spending a week at camp on Catalina Island.

Campers reunite with their families after a week at camp filled with outdoor activities, highlighted by a giant mud pit. Attendees also learned important coping skills and had the chance to relate to peers experiencing similar situations.

Girls, ages 11-12, navigate an obstacle course in the woods of Lost Lake Camp as part of a "military-themed" day outdoors. Campers from Operation Purple Camp, Fairbanks, AK, stop and take in a scenic view in the midst of a night hike in the land of the midnight sun.

At the Operation Purple Camp in Washington State campers practiced archery and tested their balance on the high ropes course.
